Anti-hyperglycemic activity of Caralluma umbellata Haw.
INTRODUCTION Hyperglycemia is a serious health problem prevailing in diabetes patients. Treatment for hyperglycemia by various oral anti-hyperglycemic drugs have associated with side effects, hence there is growing awareness towards the use of herbal products due to their efficacy, minimal side effects and relatively low costs. This study is designed to evaluate anti-hyperglycemic activity of C...
متن کاملCaralluma umbellata Haw. protects liver against paracetamol toxicity and inhibits CYP2E1
Introduction: Paracetamol is a potent hepatotoxin and may cause severe acute hepatocellular injury. The present study was intended to assess the hepatoprotective potential of Caralluma umbellata Haw. (Asclepiadaceae) against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in vitro and in vivo experimental models. Methods: Preliminary analysis for antioxidant and hepatoprotective property was evaluated for m...
متن کاملA Study of Anti-Inflammatory Activity of one Novel C-21 Steroidal Glycoside known as Carumbelloside-IV isolated from Caralluma umbellata
The phytochemical study using Caralluma umbellate (Asclepiadaceae) whole plant allowed the isolation of a novel C-21 steroidal glycoside, named as carumbelloside–IV. Carumbelloside –IV was evaluated in wistar rats using carraeenan induced left hind paw edema model. The isolated compound was administered in a dose dependant manner. This showed significant anti-inflammatory activity.
متن کاملAnti-hyperglycemic Activity of a Polysaccharide fraction from Lycium barbarum
The antihyperglycemic activity of a polysaccharide fraction from Lycium barbarum (LBP) was investigated. The various parameters studied included body weight, fasting blood glucose levels, total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) in diabetic and normal mice. LBP treatment (20, 40 mg/ kg body weight) for 28 days resulted in a significant decrease in the concentration of fasting blood glucose ...
متن کاملAnti-Hyperglycemic Activity of Major Compounds from Calea ternifolia.
Demethylisoencecalin (1) and caleins A (4) and C (5) (3.16-31.6 mg/kg, p.o.), the major components from an infusion of Calea ternifolia controlled postprandial glucose levels during an oral sucrose tolerance test (OSTT, 3 g/kg) in normal and nicotinamide/streptozotocin (NA/STZ, 40/100 mg/kg) hyperglicemic mice. The effects were comparable to those of acarbose (5 mg/kg). During the isolation of ...
